The Director of the Central Intelligence Agency sat before a closed meeting of the Senate Select Committee for Intelligence trying to explain why several operations in Afghanistan had gone sour. He was also being quizzed why one of his agents had not only been kidnapped in Colombia, but the rescue operation to recover him had been a disaster with five Army Rangers killed and eight wounded in the failed attempt. Following the meeting one of the members of the Select Committee, surreptitiously, offers an asset to help with the dilemma. Backed into a corner, the Director takes the Senator up on his offer. The asset, one Retired Gunnery Warrant Officer John Jacob "Jake" Grainger, Marine Force Recon turns out to be a bit more than the Director was ready or able, to deal with.
