Deuteronomy 22: [5] The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.The scripture above has caused more controversy, confusion and hypocrisy through the divisions and partial use of man than any other scripture. One church says one thing and another says something different.Satan has used this scripture to damn more people through perversion and being judgmental of those who wear what society no longer knows is acceptable.We have to remember the word of God is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.If a person's heart is towards pleasing the Lord they can wear things society says is wrong and still please him moreso than they who don't care about pleasing the Lord and wear what society says is right.An example is kilt.Satan can tempt a person to wear a kilt or skirt to be like woman when in fact both are scripturally sound for men. It's not the kilt or skirt which does the harm but the lust of being like a woman. On the other hand, if a man is content being a man and puts on a skirt or kilt no harm is done as it is scripturally sound.The other half of this is that some preachers and Christians will say the person is going to hell for wearing a skirt or kilt. That passing of judgment causes them to transgress. In that case Satan has used a skirt or kilt to destroy one, possibly two people's salvation through something which is correct for their sex according to scripture alone.A very important note is that none of us wear clothing which is perfect in the sight of God.It is written we are not to wear clothing of divers materials, such as linen and woolen. While the meaning of this goes far deeper into righteousness issues ( woolen - Lord's covering, linen - man's doctrines and covering ) which I won't go into, it does show us that all of us fall short of being perfectly attired before the Lord. The main thing is that we don't abuse the clothing issue for lust or perversion.Simply put, whatever we wear, men should be men and women should be women out of respect, fear and love of the Lord.Let's use scripture and human anatomy to see what the truth is.We'll set aside denominations, nationalities, passed down err, later changes and areas in which people live.Let's see if this one doctrine on attire can be taught without division, contradiction, confusion or hypocrisy.The greatest thing we should take note of is the mercy of the Lord in all of the confusion and judgmental attitudes man's twisting of the doctrines of God has brought about. We should rejoice in his mercy for all who erred and believed amiss.
