"Woke A Poetic Journey", is a collection of poetry that takes the reader into Kween Yakini's journey to becoming woke. In this book, Kween Yakini explores the trauma of Black Americans and how we continue to struggle because of our past. She writes about some of the circumstances and obstacles that we have had to face through time. She uses her poetry to paint vivid pictures that can take the reader back in time and quickly bring them back to the present. She gives the reader a great deal of insight into what it's feels like to be Black in America today. Kween Yakini's need for writing poetry came out of her own yearning for peace and healing and her strong desire to rectify our past with our present. Her hope is that "Woke A Poetic Journey" will give readers a better appreciation for the strength and endurance of Black Americans and why they should always be filled with pride. For, this book is a reflection of her truth expressed through a poetic journey.
