In the great tradition of John D. MacDonald's Travis McGee stories, author Carl H. The story opens as five men prepare to renew their childhood friendships on the beautiful island of Hawaii-and conduct a search for a valuable and long-missing entity. The five men, each past their prime but unwilling-or perhaps unable-to admit it, tackle the search in their own way, beleaguered by the limitations of their own reality. The motley crew includes the White Rhino, Harri, Crazy Dave, Dakota Slim and, last but not least, The Driver. Goofballs and screw-ups all, they are also suspicious, paranoid, thrifty, and generally full of themselves for no good reason. As they dig deeper into their search, looking all over the island for clues to unravel the mystery, the men meet a zany cast of local characters who confuse and distract them from the mission at hand. But despite the odds-and themselves-these five friends persevere in paradise, somehow discovering what they didn't even know they'd set out to find.
