Sesam (Sesamum indicum L.) ist eine ölhaltige Art, die zur Familie der Pedaliaceae gehört und möglicherweise aus Indien oder Äthiopien stammt (RICCI et al., 1999). Da ihre Samen etwa 50 % Öl von hervorragender Qualität enthalten, ist das Interesse an dieser Pflanze gewachsen, insbesondere in den Regionen Centre West, North und North East Brasiliens (BELTRÃO und VIEIRA, 2001). Nach Castellanelli et al. (2007) ist Sesam eine an tropische und subtropische Klimazonen angepasste Kulturpflanze, die trockenheitsresistent und leicht anzubauen ist. Er wird derzeit in 71 Ländern, vor allem in Asien und Afrika, angebaut. Die weltweite Produktion wird auf 3,8 Millionen Tonnen geschätzt, die auf 7,8 Millionen Hektar mit einem Durchschnittsertrag von 487 kg ha-1 erzeugt werden. Vor diesem Hintergrund wurde versucht, das Wachstum und die Produktionskapazität verschiedener Sesam-Genotypen in Abhängigkeit von der Bewässerungsrate zu quantifizieren und zu bewerten, um die beste Bewässerungsrate und den produktiven Vorteil, der ihre Anwendung rechtfertigen würde, zu bestimmen.
