Die gesamte Bibel erklärt den bitteren Tod der Menschen mit deren Sünde, d.h. damit, dass sie Gottes Lebensangebot nicht erkennen. Die Frohe Botschaft gipfelt nach allen Evangelien in Jesu Ankündigung an die Jünger, er werde getötet werden, und sie endet in Jesu schrecklicher Leidens- und Sterbe-Geschichte.
