Nadja Strasser war eine bekannte literarische Ubersetzerin, die Fjodor Dostojewski und Andrei Bely ins Deutsche ubertrug. Sie war eine Publizistin, die im Kreis ihres Schwagers Franz Pfemfert und dessen avantgardistischer Zeitschrift "Die Aktion" wirkte. Und sie war eine radikale Feministin und Schriftstellerin, die bereits 1917 und 1919 mit ihren Buchern "Die Russin" und "Das Ergebnis" die vollstandige Gleichberechtigung der Frauen forderte: Nadja Strasser, 1871 als Neoma Ramm im russischen Starodub geboren, lebte in Wien, Reichenberg, Prag und Berlin, bevor die Nationalsozialisten sie und ihren Mann, den Architekten Alexander Levy, ins franzosische Exil trieben. Levy wurde in Auschwitz ermordet; Nadja Strasser kehrte nach Berlin zuruck, wo sie 1955 verstarb. Erstmals liegen Strassers Erinnerungen an ihre Kindheit und Jugend vor, Erinnerungen an eine judische Kindheit in einem typischen Stetl, an eine Jugend zwischen Zionismus und Revolution, die in das lang ersehnte Studium mundete, das junge Frauen sich damals noch erkampfen mussten. Nadja Strasser schrieb den Text vor dem Ersten Weltkrieg. Erst jetzt ist er veroffentlicht und erlaubt Einblicke in eine zerstorte und somit vergangene Welt.
