Synopsis "Verwendung von Viren im IPM-Programm (in German)"

Das Konzept der integrierten Schädlingsbekämpfung (Integrated Pest Control, IPM) wurde erstmals Ende der 50er Jahre als ein Ansatz formuliert, der ökologische Prinzipien bei der Anwendung biologischer und chemischer Bekämpfungsmethoden gegen Insektenschädlinge anwendet. Später wurde das Konzept auf alle verfügbaren Bekämpfungsmethoden und alle Schädlingsklassen (Insekten, Pflanzenpathogene, entomopathogene Nematoden, entomopathogene Viren, entomopathogene Pilze, Unkräuter, Wirbeltierschädlinge usw.) ausgeweitet. Später wurde die Idee des "Managements" der Schädlingspopulationen anstelle der "Kontrolle" befürwortet. Das Wort "Bekämpfung" bezieht sich auf die Lösung von Schädlingsproblemen, nachdem sie aufgetreten sind, während das Management des Schädlings die Vermeidung des Problems beinhaltet. Tatsächlich liegt der Schwerpunkt des IPM auf der Vermeidung von Schädlingsproblemen. Au erdem zielt die Schädlingsbekämpfung nicht auf die Ausrottung der Schädlinge ab, sondern darauf, die Schädlingspopulationen auf einem akzeptablen Niveau zu halten.
