Synopsis "Verbreitung und Bewirtschaftungsmethoden von Coimbatore-Schafen (in German)"

Das Coimbatore-Schaf ist eine der drei anerkannten Rassen von Wollschafen, die in Tamil Nadu gezüchtet werden. Coimbatore-Schafe wurden in Sulur und Sultanpet Panchayat Union von Palladam taluk; Madukkarai und Thondamuthur Panchayat Union von Coimbatore South taluk und Periyanaiyakkanpalayam Panchayat Union des Bezirks Coimbatore verbreitet. Coimbatore-Schafe wandern von ihren Herkunftsdörfern fast in alle Richtungen bis zu 5 bis 8 km, je nach Verfügbarkeit von Weideflächen und abgeernteten Reisfeldern. Die Schafe weideten 8 bis 12 Stunden pro Tag in einer Entfernung von 5 bis 8 km vom Pferch. Die Schafe wurden einmal im Jahr in den Monaten Mai und Juni geschoren. Der durchschnittliche jährliche Ertrag an Fettvlies lag nach Angaben der Landwirte bei 0,5 kg bis 0,75 kg pro Schaf. Die Frauen waren mit dem Weben von Decken und Teppichen beschäftigt.
