వాల్మీకి రామాయణం - చారిత్రక దృక్కోణం అనే అంశంపై పరిశోధన చేయడానికి 2004 వ సంవత్సరం లోనే బీజం పడింది. చరిత్ర - చారిత్రక రచనల పట్ల నాకున్న ఆసక్తి తో రెండు చారిత్రక రచనలు చేశాను. ఈ పరంపర తోనే రామాయణంపై దృష్టి పెట్టాను. రాళ్ళపై రాతలు కన్పించవు కాని శిలలపై రామకథా శిల్పాలు అనేకం కన్పిస్తాయి. తవ్వకాలలో రామాయణం కాలం నాటి మట్టి పాత్రలు లభించలేదు కాని ప్రతి భారతీయుని గుండెలు తవ్వితే రాముడే కన్పిస్తాడు. అక్కడక్కడ రాజులు వేయించిన రామటెంకెలు (నాణ్యాలు) రామచరిత్రకు ఆధారాలుగా నిలవక పోయినా, భారతీయ సమాజంలో అనాదిగా రామకథా సంబంధిత నామాలు (పేర్లు) అంతటా కన్పిస్తాయి.ఈ కోణంలోనే రాముడి చారిత్రకతను నిరూపించే ప్రయత్నం చేశాను. ఎన్నో అంశాలు నేటికీ చిక్కు వీడని ప్రశ్న. పురావస్తు శాఖ నిరూపించనూలేదు. పాశ్చాత్య దృక్పథంతో రాయబడ్డ భారత చరిత్రను విస్మరించి స్వచ్ఛమైన భారతీయ చారిత్రక తత్వాన్ని నిరూపించాల్సిన అవసరం ఎంతైనా ఉంది. ఒక వేళ రామాయణం జరిగి ఉన్నా, అది అంతా ప్రాచీనమైంది కాదు. అది లోహయుగం తరువాత జరిగింది. ఇందులో లోహపు ఆయుధాలు, పార లాంటి వస్తువులు ఉన్నాయి కాబట్టి ఇనుప యుగం తరువాతే జరిగింది. బంగారు, వెండి గురిij
