Gilbert K. Chesterton lebte von 1874 bis 1936. Nach einem Wort des Mittelalterkenners Étienne Gilson (1884 - 1978) macht der humorige englische Schriftsteller mit seinem Thomas-Buch allen Fachleute das Leben zur Qual. 'Chesterton bringt einen zur Verzweiflung. Ich habe Thomas mein Leben lang studiert und hätte nie solch ein Buch schreiben können.' Oder auch: 'Ich halte es für das unvergleichlich beste Buch, das je über den heiligen Thomas geschrieben wurde.' Jedenfalls führt Josef Pieper (1904 - 1997) im ersten Kapitel seines Thomas-Buches diese Worte an. Was soll ich zu dem Lob sagen? Ich habe das Buch von Chesterton einfach noch einmal übersetzt und elektronisch auf deutsch zugänglich gemacht. Das ist mein Lob des Lobes. Besonders war es mir ein Anliegen, den englischen Humor für das deutsche Ohr zu retten, was nicht leicht, aber möglich ist.
