Thessaly Strange was always an outsider, seeing things that no one else could see. That high-school teacher who lectured everyone about being late to class? It was really a mechanical being composed entirely of cogs and metal parts who spouted the same lines of dialogue over and over again. Her frenemy? A literal two-faced creature, speaking flattering platitudes with one face and barbed insults with the other. The advertising firm where she works? A vast high-ceiling grey concrete structure with papers raining endlessly from above. The streets of her hometown are bustling with hard working people, little greyish figures trundling about with only question marks for faces. The whole world is a verdant wilderness filled with brightly-coloured creatures and wide, fast-flowing rivers, broken only by glowing industrial cities where molten metal runs below steel walkways. She's pretty sure she's not crazy, though. She just - can see things as they really are, is all. So when a co-worker simply vanishes and no-one else can even seem to remember they existed in the first place, she knows something really bad has happened. And when she meets Rees Laine, who seems to have simply 'replaced' the missing person, her suspicions deepen. Why can't anyone else see what's going on? Why do they believe anything he says, without question? And how come everything always seems to work out just right for him? She's determined to learn the truth. What she doesn't know yet, is that Laine knows there's something different about her, too - and he's just as intrigued by her, as she is by him. But will it be enough to keep them together or will it be the one thing that tears them apart?
