The story pulls the reader in right from beginning, due to its broad references to Russian history and the main characters' connection to Russia that weave a web of intrigue and generational liaisons. About the Author: Paula Shepards is a retired English teacher of American and British literature. She grew up in New York City and lived in Italy for thirteen years before returning to the U.S. to Honolulu, Hawaii, and from there to Virginia, where she currently resides. She wrote another book, As Long As You Believe, for young adults, and created a charity of the same name for children with AIDS, homeless and abandoned children, and children at risk.
