A socially-awkward student from Ironside High School, Kel Paxton has always relished his role as an invisible outsider. Kel is the chief strategist among his small band of role-playing gamers. His role turns on its head when he meets a girl who transferred from another school. Though she won't tell him her name, she respects him. Kel is gaining notoriety by the day for all the wrong reasons. Under the rule of an authoritarian administration, Kel begins to unravel a terrifying plan to transform the school into a dictatorship where dissent is outlawed. He prepares for his role-playing championship with his friends while plummeting into an increasingly dangerous fantasy world where his only motive is to recover the soul of a strange girl. Meanwhile, his new crush leads him along a road to self-discovery and understanding.
