In the untamed wilderness of Elderbrook Forest, all manner of creatures enjoy the beautiful simplicity of a natural life. For hundreds of years, birds, squirrels, and animals of all sizes have lived in these woods without any human interference-but as those who know about the Legend are aware, these days won't last forever. As ancient prophecy predicts, one day the humans will return to nature and must learn to live side by side with their animal friends. And when a human voice rings out over the forest, for the first time in several centuries, it seems the events described in the Legend are about to come to pass. When he learns the truth about his long-lost father, who once set out to jump-start the prophecy, Willoughby the squirrel decides to set out on a quest of his own-with his mother, Mrs. Elmsford, and the wise old snapping turtle, Mrs. Augusten, by his side. Guided by the spirits of a mystical cave to a city of people, the group finds there are plenty of surprises in store-ones that will forge new connections with human civilization and showcase how the actions of one tiny squirrel can make a difference.
