Synopsis "The Fairy Child: What Happens to a Family When a Child Has a Mysterious Disability (as Told by a Sibling) (in English)"
The author is a school psychologist who grew up with an older sister named Eileen who is Autistic. Autism was not being diagnosed in the early 1960s when they grew up. Sharon was intrigued by her sister and began wondering about human behavior as a young child. As a child Sharon sometimes slipped into Eileen's world of flowers and fantasy like the legendary fairyland where the fairy children go. This memoir will interest parents and siblings of Autistic children, as well as Baby Boomers who were influenced by the turmoil of the 1960s and 70s. The sexual revolution, feminism, and civil rights movements influenced Sharon. She studied the history of Autism, and made her way in the world while Eileen remained like a mysterious fairy child.
