Synopsis "The Dire Chronicles: Book 1, Tales of the Trapped (in English)"
After a super-nano-viral plague reduces the human race to psychotically murderous mutants, resembling a cross between zombies and vampires who hoard food, weapons, valuables, and territory, one such creature realizes his plight but is unable to do anything about it--except to chronicle his story in the psychic record via gemstone-mediated clairvoyance.The outbreak also transforms cats and dogs, and a few other species, stimulating a leap in their intelligence. In the case of cats and dogs, it is also accompanied by structural changes that allow for an upright gait, speech, and manual dexterity. With new-and-improved genetic potential, the cats and dogs vie for dominance. In the throes of a ten-year-long interspecies war, a small group defies the imposed order of things, and two young lovers chance to meet. Meanwhile, as the stricken human watches events unfold, and begins piecing together his former life, a malevolent presence controlling a zompire network invades his psychic space, and they battle on the astral plane.
