Dichte Migrationsbewegungen und eine hohe innerstadtische Mobilitat fuhrten in Berlin und Prag im spaten 19. Jahrhundert zu Wahrnehmungen von Unubersichtlichkeit und Uberforderung. Felizitas Schaub untersucht mit einem praxisorientierten Ansatz, wie die Verwaltungen und Bevolkerungen die Mobilitat verhandelten und welche Lernprozesse, aber auch Strategien des Ausschlusses dadurch in Gang gesetzt wurden. Im Fokus der Untersuchung steht die Frage, wie sich Migranten und Migrantinnen organisierten, um ein gewisses Mass an Stabilitat und lebensweltlicher Kontinuitat zu schaffen. Welche Formen von Vergemeinschaftung in diesem Prozess entstanden, wird unter anderem an einem Netzwerk zwischen chinesischen Wanderhandlern und deutschen Vermietern veranschaulicht, das exemplarisch aufzeigt, wie kreativ die Stadtnomaden mit restriktiven Bedingungen umgingen.
