Synopsis "Someone to Dance With: A Christmas Miracle (in English)"
In 1995, my wife and I were married on the Sovereign of the Seas. In the days that followed, we met a young lady from Salt Lake City named Rachel, who was taking the cruise with her parents as a kind of last wish; she had an inoperable brain tumor and didn't have long to live. She was a lovely girl, fourteen years old, bright-eyed and full of life. When we left the ship we hugged and wished her luck. Later, of course, we held each other and wept. A few months later, when we heard she had died, we felt like we had lost one of our own. In time, we came up with a way to ease our grief. We decided to write a book in which a beautiful woman (a grown-up Rachel) with an inoperable brain tumor would go on a cruise to see parts of the world she'd never seen before, and to experience life outside of Salt Lake City. Thus SOMEONE TO DANCE WITH was born. Rachel is an orphan, left on the doorstep of a convent as a tiny baby. When she's told at age 34 the tumor is growing rapidly and will soon kill her she decides to spend her last days seeing things she's never seen before. First, she'll go on a cruise. If she dies, she'll die with dignity and a tan.
