Synopsis "Some, Just Like You (in English)"

SOME, JUST LIKE YOU by Stanley Sokol Little does Dan Shore, Dean of Science and Math at Winner College in New York City, realize that when he agrees to help his old friend Cedric Miller become the first black acting president of Winner, the two of them will find themselves perched atop a powder keg of racial conflict that will dramatically change their lives. The story unfolds after Cedric becomes embroiled in a disagreement with the black leaders of Winner over the promotion of DuWayne Peterson, a long time adjunct professor, to a tenure-track position. Meanwhile, Dan finds that Ella Johnson, the Winner legal counsel, is pursuing him. Dan is attracted to her, but puzzled by her coming on to him, since he thinks she is a lesbian. While their on-and-off romance ripens, they work together to turn Cedric from acting president to permanent-something that traditionally never happens-but before their plans come to fruition, Cedric is murdered. After Cedric's death, the provost of the college, Susan Flumenhaft, is appointed as the acting president and she tries to enlist Dan's aid in securing the permanent presidency for herself. Since she represents what Cedric and Dan have opposed throughout their careers, Dan finds a way, with Ella's help, to remove Susan and put himself in the position of acting president. Dan does this by leading the taking back of the college after the students take control of the campus and by exposing Susan as a bigot. When DuWayne Peterson is killed in an altercation with two black men on a subway platform, it becomes necessary for Dan and Ella to travel to the Bronx neighborhood where Dan grew up. There they find that two black families living together in a Bronx apartment are deeply involved in Cedric's murder and Dan must decide how to define justice.
