Synopsis "Secrets of an Abused Woman (in English)"
Rose was special to her family. Not only was she the youngest of 10 children - 5 boys and 4 girls raised in a small southern town, but she was special to her father because she was born with her heart on the right side. If Dessie Lee Brooks would have known his baby girl was being abused by her husband, Billy would have been dead long before the Chicago Police killed him. So not only did Rose know she couldn't tell her dad, but she knew she had to keep her abuse a Secret. And one secret always leads to another. But when it comes to life or death, one secret can be one too many. As Rose tried to make a life for herself and her family, her secrets threatened that life and the lives of her children until she found herself a prisoner of her own making. Finally, locked up behind bars, her badge removed and her reputation and dignity turning to shame, she began to see the mess she'd allowed her life to become. This is the gripping story of one woman caught up in a world of drug users, dealers and abusers, and old school cultural ideas that prevented her from breaking free, so much so that she spent years trying to make sense of her own decisions. In the end, we see a woman who is strong and who, through the grace of God, finds her path to the destiny she was meant for, each mile of her journey showing itself, in hindsight, to have been a stepping stone to her becoming an important figure in the lives of so many others.
