Everyone tells Colin Barnes he's a strong man. After losing his wife Lauren to cancer, he is left to raise their young daughter, Grace, on his own. At times he wants to give up, but it just takes one look at his little girl to realize that he needs to keep going. An opportunity for a fresh start lands in his lap when his company offers him a better position in another state. Even though it means going far away from everyone he knows, his family encourages him to take the job. Colin tells Grace they will be able to get acquainted with new people, but who is he trying to convince more - his daughter, or himself? They wind up in Red Alder Valley, a peaceful suburban town located just outside of Portland, Oregon. Everything seems to be going well until the day Colin receives a call from Grace's new school, informing him that his child is having trouble fitting in. The counselor recommends enrolling Grace in an extracurricular activity and suggests the local dance studio. Grace is willing to try, so Colin decides to sign her up for lessons. That's when Colin is introduced to Ben Stevenson. A dance instructor and volunteer firefighter, Ben is an outgoing, good-looking, all-American kind of guy...who also happens to be gay. As Ben offers to help Grace to come out of her shell, he extends a hand to Colin in much-needed friendship. But what happens when Colin starts to develop a surprisingly strong attraction to his daughter's charming dance teacher? Is this just idle curiosity? Or will it unearth an unpleasant incident from Colin's past that he had buried years ago?
