Synopsis "saluki marooned (in English)"
He flunked the 20th Century and is failing the 21st. 54-year-old Peter Federson is a burned-out broadcaster; moving from job to job with no stability until... One day after getting fired yet again, Pete is cleaning his ratty trailer and finds a shopping bag with the picture of the girl he should have married nearly forty years ago while he was in college. Also in the bag is a bottle of vodka and some pills. Pete takes the pills and drinks the vodka. Soon he finds himself on a drunken train ride to the college he flunked out of, staggers onto campus, and passes out under a rack of canoes on a lake near the dorms. He awakens in 197! Now Pete is determined to win the girl he should have married in the first place, pass algebra, and avoid flunking out of school yet again because he desperately wants to pass the 20th century so he can move on in peace to the 21st. But can he? Peter struggles with his pathologically nervous nature and fights with something else inside himself that refuses to let him repair his past. And that, coupled with a sadistic algebra instructor, an ex-wife-to-be who refuses to go away, a street party that leads to City Court and jail... and a riot, makes him wish he were back in the 21st Century. For Peter Federson is once again a Radio and TV student at one of the top broadcasting schools in the nation-Southern Illinois University. SIU's mascot is the Saluki dog, and its colors are white and maroon. But to Peter Federson maroon is not just a color, but a dilemma, because he is marooned in 1971...a Saluki Marooned.
