John and Katie Duncan are settling into being British, having moved to small-town Scotland the year before. John's photography is selling well and budding novelist Katie's book has been successful. They've burned through much of their savings, but things are financially starting to look up. When John lands a photography job at Clydebank near Glasgow, Katie decides to tag along. As he's taking pictures, he finds a memorial to those killed during the Clydebank Blitz. "I had an Uncle... well, my grandfather's brother... who lived here in Scotland. That's his name!" One of those names oddly resembles one heard from old family stories. As the memories surface, Katie, John, and their friend Tim find themselves transported in time to days just prior to the Clydebank Blitz. John and Tim find they're employed at one of the most important shipyards in Scotland, one of the inevitable targets of the attack; each is living the life of one of their ancestors whom they know to have died in the blitz. Katie, however, takes up the life of one of her relatives in Glasgow and is horrified of her "husband's" role during this era. "It's one of the targets. The whole city is." Katie has a chance to change Scottish history and save untold civilian lives, but to do so could mean altering the course of their own lives where they're never born.
