Fue diputado a Cortes, secretario del Congreso y se dedicó al mismo tiempo a la literatura y a la crítica literaria. Perteneció a la época del Romanticismo, pero nunca fue un hombre ni un escritor romántico, sino un epicúreo andaluz, culto, irónico y amante del sexo.
