Bei der Parodontitis handelt es sich um eine dysbiotische Erkrankung, die aus einer Abweichung der subgingivalen grampositiven Bakterien zu gramnegativen Bakterien resultiert, die sich von den grampositiven Bakterien entfernen. Die Entwicklung der parodontalen Dysbiose vollzieht sich über einen längeren Zeitraum, wodurch die symbiotische Verbindung zwischen Wirt und Mikrobe langsam in eine pathogene umschlägt.
