Most Christians know they lack something, the reality of God's presence in their life and His power working in and through them. However if we are honest for most Christians God's presence and the notion of His power working in their life is a concept rather than a reality. You cannot fill an empty vessel which is closed; you have to open it before you can fill it. And you cannot fill a vessel which is full even if full with the wrong kind of stuff; you have to empty it before you can fill it. God established that natural law Himself and it seems He doesn't bypass it.We come across many empty open vessels in the Bible. For example Elisha and the poor widow in the Old Testament. The miracles of Jesus in the New Testament - the miraculous turning water into wine through His power started with empty open vessels; on two occasions miraculously filling Peter's empty net with fish through His power; and on two occasions miraculously feeding (filling) a hungry crowd (empty human vessels) through His power. And of course the empty tomb.
