Synopsis "Overcoming The World (in English)"
"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33 Troubles-- yes, that is an understatement at times. As a young girl living in a home where alcohol ran the mood, a gun was not that far away, and fear from that atmosphere was always present, the definition of trouble became normal. It was so normal that when I was kidnapped one night, I had no idea that having sheriffs chasing us, catching us, and taking me back to my mom was a problem. Nor was the night we left all of our belongings and our home to "visit grandma" -- never to return. As I continued to grow towards adulthood, I was exposed to some issues that could have broken many of us. I am convinced, however, that my positive attitude toward the world is my belief that God is truly with us though this world, as he stated in John 16:33. "Overcoming The World" is an evolving testimony because I believe our testimony is more like a life resume. From the first time I heard Jesus' name, which was during a family tragedy, until now, having survived brain surgery, I have always felt God's strength helping me overcome this world's troubles. This is also a simple workbook, and my hope is that you can identify with my troubles and then get closer to the Lord as we overcome this world together. This workbook, Overcoming the World, is in two parts. Originally, these were two separate Bible studies, Why Not Me and Remind Me, Lord, That I Am a Christian! My inspiration came from my favorite Bible verse, John 16:33- "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
