Synopsis "Optimized Remediation of Organic Chlorides (in English)"

The organo-chlorine compounds are highly persistent and their presence in industrial wastewater leads to their accumulation in the environment and therefore creates a serious pollution problem. 2, 4-Dichlorophenol belongs to the family of phenol and phenolic compounds. These compounds are found in the effluents of petroleum refineries, pharmaceuticals, resin and dye manufacturing industries. They have been used as intermediates in the synthesis of plastics, colours, pesticides, insecticides and herbicides etc. The significant removal of 2, 4-DCP from aqueous phase was achieved by applying sorption technique. The removal potential of different natural and synthetic sorbents for 2, 4-DCP has been investigated. Amongst these sorbents silica was found to have greater potential for removal of 2, 4-DCP under certain physico-chemical conditions.
