Die meisten Patienten (ca. 70 %) verbringen ihre letzten Wochen und Tage in stationaren Einrichtungen. Die Frage nach Sinn, Wert und Bedeutung des eigenen Lebens und Handelns beschaftigt nicht nur die Betroffenen oft in grosser Intensitat, sondern vielfach auch Mitarbeitende in den helfenden Professionen, Ehrenamtliche, Angehorige und Nahestehende der Patienten. Das Leiden unter Gefuhlen der Sinnlosigkeit, des spirituellen Schmerzes und ungeloster religioser Fragen bleibt in der Praxis trotz des palliativmedizinischen "total pain"-Konzepts haufig weitgehend unbeachtet. Sinnzentrierte Seelsorge im Anschluss an die Logotherapie Viktor Frankls wurdigt die Individualitat des Einzelnen und bietet wichtige Impulse fur interdisziplinare Zusammenarbeit und seelische Gesundheit.
