Unser Ziel war es, die Umweltauswirkungen der Landnutzung in zwei Regionen des brasilianischen Bundesstaates Acre zu bewerten und dabei die Praktiken der "traditionellen Siedler" (meist Nachkommen von Kautschukzapfern) und der "neuen Siedler" (Migranten aus dem Süden und Südosten des Landes) zu vergleichen. Die ökologische Nachhaltigkeit ländlicher Grundstücke wurde mit Hilfe des "System of Land Suitability for Environmental Recovery - SATRA" (WADT et al., 2004) eingeschätzt, das die derzeitige Landnutzung und die vorgeschriebene Nutzung anhand einer Reihe von ökologischen und sozioökonomischen Leistungsindikatoren vergleicht, die vier Dimensionen abdecken: Landwirtschaft, biologische Vielfalt, Wirtschaft und Soziales.
