Synopsis "Needful Wild Glory & Profusions of Wealth—That's my Prescription, Anyway: Sayings by the Philosopher, Even (in English)"

Picture gathering friends together to socialize after dark by reading quote-worthy sayings in a library’s apse chapel by candlelight. Ideal as that may be, now realize that it's just not part of our modern culture. Where have we gone wrong that no part of this is done? Here we have, at our fingertips, the most thought-provoking, expertly-crafted sayings; by the greatest individuals in history—the sages’ greatest hits—and we let them gather dust, fools that we collectively are. I dare say, pouring over quotable sayings should be more of a thing. This particular booklet of quotable sayings has been arranged for a rather unusual reason; which is given by the ambitious author, and stated in the Introduction:"I shouldn’t have to worry, as a budding philosopher; that; while in a position of total obscurity, my lovely sayings might be snatched up by others, to be spread with no moment’s thought about giving me credit since I AM now so utterly unknown. Credit does accrue to those who have it already, but it’s a new age, where publishing has changed, and is so easy to do alone; I really should lock down some of my most transmittable sayings, so voila."So this selection of Even's “most transmittable sayings” is a small volume, from a budding philosopher, of about 35 entries that may take a typical thinking person something in the ballpark of an hour (but definitely less than two) to ponder. A couple entries are long tracts—in fact, one of them is a couple pages. But trust the author—that this longest entry is no ordinary piece of prose, self-indulgently splashed on the page; rather, it’s here for the stated reason: because it will likely be taken up and quoted at length, if not whole… being, as it is, a timeless explanation of what philosophy is, what it can do, and why it is valuable. This new saying comes onto the scene at a time when philosophers have seemed recently to have difficulty explaining their value and their discipline to the public; so these contents may prove highly valuable, contagious, and edifying. This little booklet of maxims and sayings will kindle a reader’s thirst for good philosophy in addition to drawing the reader into Even’s fascinating worldview. Expect a heartwarming, exacting, skeptical, humorous, and shockingly ambitious ride through a highly curated effusion of pure thoughtfulness. There is a lot to be affected by in these pages. From much-needed smackdowns, to verbal shields that can protect the righteous, to metrics of greatness, to encouragement of innocence in the face of the evil and corrupt outlooks of the world; these sayings—many of them instant classics—charm, gladden, edify, and fortify. Take them with you in life.
