Seit langem weiss man um die berufsspezifischen Belastungen und Erkrankungen bei Musikern. Doch erst in den letzten 25 Jahren drangen diese auch ins Bewusstsein der Öffentlichkeit. Durch epidemiologische Studien wurde immer wieder belegt, dass bereits während der Ausbildung ein Bedarf an berufsspezifischer Prävention besteht. Bisher existierten jedoch an den Musikhochschulen im deutschsprachigen Raum noch kaum systematische Präventionsprogramme. Es gab demzufolge auch keine wissenschaftlichen Studien über deren Wirksamkeit. Dieses Buch soll Musiker an Ausbildungsstätten und in Berufsorchestern sowie Therapeuten und Mediziner dazu ermutigen, systematische Prävention zu betreiben. Ausserdem soll es zum interdisziplinären Austausch anregen.
