Synopsis "More Great Beginnings From Reading Logically (in English)"
This book is written especially for those students who have finished Reading Logically, Level One, Great Beginnings. However, because the concentration is on short vowels and word families, it can also be used by other early readers. There is a lot of good review of the concepts that were covered in Reading Logically, Level One. This is accomplished mainly through stories and poems, and there are a few crossword puzzles and several other activities to enjoy. Simple contractions are introduced, and compound words are formed, using words that the student already knows, such as bed + room = bedroom, and sun + set = sunset. There is more exposure to double "e" words, and words that have the "oo" sound, such as cool and chew. Several stories also have questions, for those who are interested in reading comprehension. The answers are upside-down, and follow the questions. Simple illustrations add interest. The student should be able to enjoy most of this book by himself, or herself. However, there are some clues, or parts of clues, to the crossword puzzles that will probably need to be read to the student. The parent, or teacher, is encouraged to be an active part of the child's learning process. There are a few new, or more difficult, words that are in a box at the top of the page. Reading Logically is well-suited for homeschooling families, and for English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) students. It is currently being used successfully with older students who have struggled with reading for years. All students who have used Reading Logically have either learned how to read, or have greatly increased their reading skills.
