Pat Jones grew up in a large family of nine children moving from place to place as tenant farmers and sharecroppers during the Great Depression. These stories reveal her love of the earth, of animals and birds, of barns and ponies. Her parents encouraged each child's creative streak. Pat's gift was carving, and she continues her art through prize-winning carvings of decoys, songbirds and other reflections of her connectedness to living things. Now in her 90's, she speaks of her daily walks to a nearby pond, where ducks welcome her by untying her sneakers. She works on her craft through the day, and continues to write stories of her childhood as well, memories of 'way back when.' Her stories from those days reward the reader with sagas like the bull and the haunted house, her Pappa's cure for an earache, Buddy and the swallowed tadpole, and so many more touching and humorous adventures.
