Synopsis "Luck of the Mackinnon (in English)"

the important thing to keep in mind when you read this is to have an imagination. This story isn't based in the year 2008 or any year for that matter. It's completely and totally fictional, set in a fictional world; however, the world is very similar to our reality. There are no bizarre alien life forms, no superhuman heroes like Superman or Spiderman, and no crazy wizards that can shoot fireballs from their fingertips. The people in this world have to eat and drink, sleep, and go to the bathroom just like you and I. People still have to get up and go to work just like you. The seasons change; sometimes it rains, sometimes it's sunny. The only major difference in this world and the one we all live in is that this one is set in a time hundreds of years before modern technology, somewhat comparable to Earth in the 7th century A.D. People fight with swords instead of guns, ride horses instead of in cars, and generally worry a lot more about surviving the day than where they're getting their next cup of coffee. One of my favorite quotes from the book: "You know sometimes I wonder if my life has any purpose; if anyone's life has a purpose. Everyone searches for something in life. Some want wealth, fame, power. Some want a simple life, a family, children. Many people that want these things appear to be blessed with the capacity to be satisfied, for their searches can come to a successful end; a discovery, but people like us, we will probably never settle down, never be completely satisfied with anything. That is because we live for the search, not for the discovery. We live for the trip, not the destination. That is why we must journey. We willingly search for something we will never likely find, but that is our fate, our destiny. We are wanderers, nomads of the land and sea, surveyors of all the world, masters of our fates, living by the strength of our arms and the wisdom of our minds. And we do it all for the thrill, the rush of adrenalin in a fight, the view from the top of a mountain, the salty wind at the helm of an ocean-going ship. We are Adventurers."
