Synopsis "Lidocaine and prevention of post-intubation laryngeal pain (in English)"
Laryngeal pain and sore throat are common after orotracheal intubation. These morbidities can be controlled by several methods, including lidocaine, which remains the molecule of choice for preventing them. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of lidocaine in two administration techniques (cuffed and intravenous) versus placebo in controlling laryngeal pain after surgery requiring general anesthesia with orotracheal intubation and lasting less than 240 minutes. We concluded that both lidocaine administration techniques reduced post-intubation laryngeal pain compared with the control, with better control in favor of alkalinized cuffed lidocaine.
