In den vergangenen zwei Jahrzehnten hat sich das Konzept der Therapeutischen Landschaften - therapeutic landscapes- zu einem der Hauptthemenfelder der internationalen geographischen Gesundheitsforschung entwickelt. Obwohl das Konzept auf strukturalistische, anthropologische, psychologische, soziologische und symbolische Bedeutungsebenen verweist, wurde es in der Vergangenheit vielfach auf therapeutische Aspekte realer, physischer Landschaften reduziert. Das Konzept könnte jedoch im Kontext von Public Health eine weitaus größere Tragweite entfalten und verstehbar machen, wie sich Gesundheits- und Erkrankungsprozesse im Raum realisieren. Hierbei stehen die Begriffe ?Identität?, ?Symbol? und ?Place? im Mittelpunkt. Das Anliegen des Buches ist, die verschiedenen Bedeutungsaspekte, empirischen Hinweise und v.a. argumentativen Begründungszusammenhänge zur Beziehung zwischen Landschaft, Identität und Gesundheit konzeptionell zusammenzuführen.?
