In der täglichen Routinepraxis der Kieferorthopädie werden sowohl festsitzende als auch herausnehmbare Apparaturen zur Korrektur von Zahnfehlstellungen verwendet. Das Behandlungsergebnis mit festsitzenden Apparaturen ist jedoch wesentlich besser als mit herausnehmbaren Apparaturen. Festsitzende Apparaturen werden daher von Kieferorthopäden für verschiedene kieferorthopädische Behandlungsmodalitäten bevorzugt, bei denen Bracket Bonding, Banding und verschiedene Apparate an den Zähnen befestigt werden. Dabei werden zwei feste Substrate oder Haftmittel durch eine dazwischenliegende Klebeschicht miteinander verbunden. Eine optimale Voraussetzung für das Kleben von Brackets, Bändern und verschiedenen festsitzenden Apparaturen auf einer beliebigen Oberfläche ist, dass diese stark genug ist, um den Kräften der kieferorthopädischen Behandlung und den Kaukräften standzuhalten, ohne sich zu verschieben.
