Synopsis "Junger Debatte: Band 6 (2023): Uber Den Schmerz (in German)"
Ernst Junger's 1934 essay "Uber den Schmerz" is one of Junger's most important texts. It is thematically related to his seminal essay "Der Arbeiter. Herrschaft und Gestalt". A new relationship to pain is interpreted as a criterion of modernity, which, according to Junger, is nihilistic at its core. Modern man must thus be ready to objectify his body in all possible ways to such an extent that pain becomes a measure of this intrinsically senseless process. At the same time, it must be seen that Junger later abandoned this conception of pain in favor of a return to the story of the passion of Christ. Junger Debatte 6 brings together ten essays on this topic. In addition, among other contributions, yet another part of the manuscript of "Der Arbeiter" is published for the first time as a facsimile and in diplomatic transcription.
