Synopsis "Jump on the Bus: Make Democracy Work Again (in English)"

This memoir is a parable and a syllogism that fits perfectly with Joseph Campbell's monomyth of the hero's journey. It is the story of Glynn Wilson’s life as a writer and how he learned how to make a difference as a newspaper reporter, magazine-editor and web publisher. It is a memoir more than a full-blown auto-biography and an important theme runs throughout about how to save American democracy and the planet. The American landscape is being scarred with the carcasses of dying newspapers, creating news deserts. Big brand name news companies are more corporate than ever creating a massive digital divide with their paywalls. The economies of scale for the news-business and books, music and independent films have been stuck in the abyss since the invention of the internet and the first publicly posted sites on the world wide web. But there is a way out, and this story offers an elixir from this writer's experiences on how we might raise the level of political dialogue in the United States and find a way to solve our most pressing problems, like tackling climate change due to global warming from the burning of fossil fuels. This tale is also an inspirational story for anyone interested in knowing how to succeed in writing, film, music – or in life. All the proceeds of this book will go to paying the expenses of funding watchdog public service journalism covering public affairs in the New American Journal at NewAmericanJournal.Net. This 2nd Edition has an expanded introduction about the important role the press plays in educating citizens in a democracy. It includes a chapter about how the independent web press helped Democrat Doug Jones beat Republican Ten Commandments Judge Roy Moore in a historic Alabama special election in 2017. It has another chapter on how watchdog public service journalism helped save people from dying from lack of health care coverage when Medicaid funding was threatened by politicians in Montgomery. It also has a new chapter on the election of Donald Trump as President and some suggestions on how the press should be covering the president and the federal government now. A new epilogue was added. It summarizes the story and includes suggestions for future research and funding the new press in America. After being raised in a conservative Christian family in the suburbs of Birmingham, Alabama, Wilson wandered almost accidentally into college classrooms and changed over the years into a liberal, intellectual writer who learned how to make a difference in covering public affairs. If more people would just be willing to jump on this bus with us, to try to understand and help us accomplish our mission, we might just save this democracy and this planet. As you can see from Wilson's own story documented here in some detail, he has engaged in many journeys over the past four decades. I have fallen into the abyss a few times too. But I always seem to come back full circle, clinging to and bringing forth the life saving elixir to share with my fellow human beings and save myself and the world. It really does not require a gift from a goddess, or a tangled web of purple prose or a sensational, viral video. It just takes waking up every day, scanning the world horizon and reading between the headlines, identifying the stories that need to be told, and telling them in a scientifically objective fashion. It could turn out that humans are too just too ignorant or stupid to save this Garden of Eden. But with your help, if we an sell enough copies of this book and find other funding to cover the cost of the next big project, there is a second book and documentary that needs to be funded, a followup to this work. It will tell the story of objectivity in American journalism like it has never been told before. All proceeds of this book will go to paying the expenses of funding watchdog public service journalism.
