Mike A. Minnifield, an 11 year old boy, has just moved from the city to volunteer at Tomorrow Ark, a zoo for creatures never believed to exist in the distant future! When he goes exploring the Coniferous Forest Exhibit, he meets a girl tour guide-in training, Paula Hougland, and the two can hardly wait to explore the future world around them! Their first close encounter is a tree-dwelling squid known as a calamarin.
