Si tratta di una situazione clinica in cui vi è un'eccessiva secrezione di PTH da parte delle ghiandole paratiroidi, con conseguente ipercalcemia cronica e alterazioni dei principali organi bersaglio dell'ormone (rene e osso)(5,6). È la causa più comune di ipercalcemia nei pazienti non ospedalizzati(5,27).
