He was unable to get answers about sex when he was a child because that was a taboo subject It was a time and place when and where sex was not even discussed with people's children or anyone else. This made relationships difficult. So, he concentrated on his plans for a career and the use of his talents. Suppressing his true sexuality resulted in some mental and emotional turmoil and sometimes clinical depression. After many years and a broken marriage, he was finally able to break the bonds of unhappiness by finding friends who accepted him and loved him unconditionally, something he never experienced even in his own family. He believes this is every gay or lesbian's story as they seek simple acceptance for being who they are. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Dr. Larry Barnes (PhD) is a retired minister, counselor and musician who grew up and lived primarily in the Carolinas. He lives with his domestic partner in Florida.
