Synopsis "I, Tewksberry (in English)"
In this whimsical romance unlike any other, chess devotee Reginald Tewksberry is a man who has sworn off love and most relationships for utter success at chess-a move that leaves him lonely and somewhat disillusioned. But the English gentleman finds himself in a bind when he hires a housekeeper and, against his own code, promptly falls in love with her. Despite Tewksberry's best efforts to reject his feelings, he continues to fall for the lovely Ethel Beams, though she is quite married. Enlisted to help are his two best friends and fellow chess mates, Sir Harry and the Marshal. Little does he know, though, that his friends are hatching a scheme of their own. Tewksberry seeks solace from it all at the Club, where he fraternizes with his comrades. But the despair over Ethel continues. As Tewksberry readies himself for an epic chess battle, Sir Harry and the Marshal's plan is revealed, as is a mystery chess player. In I, Tewksberry, author M. M.
