PS kann auch in der Photovoltaik, in biomedizinischen Anwendungen sowie in Batterien und Solarzellen eingesetzt werden. PS wird normalerweise entweder durch anodisches Ätzen in HF-basierten Lösungen oder durch Fleckenätzen in HF/Oxidationsmittel hergestellt. Während die metallunterstützte chemische Ätzmethode keine externe Vorspannung benötigt und die Bildung von gleichmä igem PSL schneller ermöglicht als die Fleckenätzmethode.
