In 1997, thirty long years after the Summer of Love, millions mourned the death of Rose Partland, a seemingly indefatigable music industry icon who'd led her legendary band Jack O'Roses-the pied pipers of rock-through the rigors of the rock & roll life . . . until the road, and perhaps the undying, all-too-forgiving love of her fans, finally destroyed her. But no fan seems to have suffered more than the obsessed and dogmatic Brian 'Nibbs Niffy' Godbold, who after Rose's demise managed to last seven grim years, until he, too, fell victim to the same excesses that consumed his idol. Now, his best friend Ashton Tobias Zemp must scour the voluminous writings Nibbs left behind, to seek a better answer to the question of his touring partner's death-was it a mere overdose, or suicide? In the course of reading Brian's journals, Ash not only discovers the truth about the death of Nibbs Niffy, but also finds perspective on his own shattered life and deep love of Rose-was he a 'real' fan like his friend, or a fellow traveler: a sympathizer, but without the bona fides?
