Synopsis "Faith (in English)"
Owen Bauer, a forty-something divorcee with three daughters, spends his days in a stale, bland office space as an actuary going through spreadsheet after spreadsheet. It's deadening work, but he doesn't complain - it's stable and supports his children, and for the most part he is content. He attends church every Sunday and has always been a faithful servant of God, never so much as stealing a paperclip from his office and holding as closely to the Lord's commandments as possible. That is, however, until Mason Westfall one day breezes through the office doors and changes Owen's life. Almost a decade younger than Owen, and with a far more chipper outlook on life than Owen possesses, he floors him. He immediately fills him with feelings of desire and passion that Owen hasn't felt for years for anyone, let alone a man. They develop a close friendship, going out for coffee, for dinner, until one night after one too many drinks, a simple touch of the hand in the close quarters of a car makes Owen face up to the fact that it isn't just friendship that he and Mason have. Owen is presented with a problem - how does he reconcile his devout faith with these intense feelings for another man? He struggles through his feelings, worrying about how it will affect his work, his daughters, and his relationship with God. Though he realizes early on that it isn't just physical feelings he has for Mason, he constantly worries about his extremely homophobic ex-wife finding out about them and what she'll do if she ever catches them. There are arguments and doubt as Owen faces these new realizations. Will he be able to reconcile his feelings for Mason with his devotion to God?
