Synopsis "Evaluation of the Patient with Transient Ischemic Attack (in English)"

Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) is one of the most frequent chronic non-communicable diseases in Cuba. In order to reduce its impact on quality of life, the ABCD2 Score was developed in 2007 from 2 previous scores. Objectives: To characterize the relationship between the ABCD2 Score parameters and the evolutionary prognosis of patients with ATI.Methods: A prospective analytical observational study of 62 cases with a diagnosis of ATI admitted to the HFA was carried out. Results: 90% of the patients had AHT. 48% had intermediate risk score and 45% had high risk score. 20% of intermediate risk patients had TIA or CVD within 30 days and 16% of high risk patients had CVD.Conclusions: The main form of presentation of TIAs was carotid artery territory with hemiplegia. Of the total of 62 patients, 58 had moderate or high risk on scoring. Cases with intermediate or high score had more complications, such as repeat TIA or new CVD in the period up to 1 month after TIA. ABCD2 proved to be a useful tool for deciding patient behavior in patients with TIA.
