In the midst of the Great Depression, on a "wilderness" ranch at the end of the road in the Crazy Mountains of Montana, life remains rich in family and friends, animals and imagination. The bad times - death of his brother and grandparents and the tragic shooting of a cousin, the Depression, the Lindbergh kidnapping, his teddy bear falling into the outhouse are balanced by good times - holidays, the birth of a new cousin, trips to town and parades and the state fair, a hired hand who eats more than he works but is important in other ways, selling eggs to a rich uncle. Sage Brush takes us to a different time and place, with love and humor.
